SPRING + FLANNEL

Spring + flannel — two words I don't typically associate with one another. By the time spring rolls around, I'm usually ready to stow my flannels for the warmer months in exchange for chiffon, silk and lace. But, I've always found the transitional months of March and April to be especially difficult to dress for. I'm over my winter wardrobe, but it's not quite warm enough to break out most of my spring + summer pieces. What's a girl to do?

With this dilemma, I'm learning to come to a compromise. Bright + light colored flannels can totally work in transitional wardrobes. The key is shying away from "festive" flannels in favor of lighter patterns. In this instance, my favorite heavy-weight J.Crew flannel fits the bill nicely. It's a brighter patterned top that doesn't sacrifice necessary warmth — because hey, it's not quite spring just yet!

I'm sad to say I think it's just a matter of time before it's time to retire my beloved Converse sneakers! I've had them for quite a while now, and they've seen me through the better part of college. I'm thinking about upgrading to a pair of Converse Jack Purcell's because the minimalist design looks a bit cleaner than the traditional Converse shoe. Although, I'd gladly take recommendations for a casual city sneaker!

  6. I've actually never worn a flannel, but a good friend of mine swears by them as transitional pieces, too. I've heard they're great for fall wardrobes.

  11. I love this flannel! The colored ones always look so awkward on me, but I have one that is very similar, but I don't look near as awesome as you do!
